CTEK’s CC3: Powering the EVs of workers at UK offices
One of the first UK installations of CTEK’s new CC3 charge points was in an underground car park beneath a commercial office building in Guildford, Surrey.
Six dual-output CC3 charge points are ready to charge up to 12 Electric Vehicles (EVs) at once after charging was retrofitted into the parking garage by the installer Sustainable Electrical Services (SES).
The property agents Colliers oversaw the introduction of workplace EV charging at the building, which has several tenant businesses.
SES managed the logistics of a new 250A electricity connection direct from the sub-station, a new distribution board, metal containment with capacity for future expansion and the wiring and installation of the six CC3s – all whilst the busy car park remained in use.
Separate blocks of two or four bays were released in turn to SES for the spaces to be painted and for the wall-mounted dual outlet CC3 charge points put in.
SES also integrated the EVSE with the building’s fire alarm system, so that if the alarm is activated any operating EV charging automatically isolates from the electrical supply.
John Betteridge, SES General Manager, said: “The biggest challenge of the project was that it was taking place in a live car park with high demand for the parking spaces.
“We have previously installed CTEK’s CC2 charge points and the CC3 is even easier to work with. The physical installation went very well.
“Even though on this project we aren’t utilising all the new benefits that the CC3 has to offer, it was still clear just by the speed of connection and commissioning that this charge point is an improvement on previous models.”
Viktors Nikolajevs, UK Key Account Manager at CTEK, said: “It was a pleasure to work with SES to deliver this installation of some of the first new generation CTEK CC3 charge points in the UK.
“The car park’s users are plugging their EVs into charge points that are futureproofed for the coming innovations in EV charging, including Autocharge, Plug & Charge and more.
“The new CC3 was designed with feedback from installers, to help CTEK ensure installation is simpler, quicker and more efficient. It was good to observe SES as they successfully installed and commissioned the charge points.”
John added: “We look forward to installing many more CC3s. We know that if we have a query our requests are dealt with very quickly by the CTEK team, including via a shared WhatsApp group, or by the great technical team in Sweden. We are well looked after.”
