How to charge a mild hybrid
Mild hybrids are vehicles equipped with both an internal combustion engine (ICE) and a small electric generator / motor, which assists the engine during starting, cruising or hard acceleration. The 48V battery which powers the hybrid system is recharged using the vehicles kinetic energy through regenerative braking. The generator captures the energy during coasting and braking to be stored and used for restarting the engine and acceleration. Even though the electrical system is recharged by generative breaking, you still need to charge the 12V battery. You need the 12V system for almost all of the functions in your car such as air conditioning, lights, opening of the doors, the radio, windows etc.

E-roaming in EV Charging: Understanding OCPP and OCPI
As electric vehicles (EVs) continue to gain popularity, the need for a seamless and efficient charging experience for EV drivers becomes increasingly important. One solution to this challenge is e-roaming, which allows EV drivers to charge their vehicles at any charging station, regardless of the provider. And it’s a factor that, if not addressed, could impact EV adoption. A European survey, commissioned by CTEK, identified that just under half (45%) of respondents are concerned about a lack of EV roaming. The survey also revealed a continued shift towards out-of-home charging, with 59% of current EV owners charging at home, compared with 66% in 2021 – which means that 41%, a figure that we know will continue to grow, are using chargers at a destination that in the majority of cases will have some sort of payment solution.

e-roaming is a positive driver for EVs and charging
Driving an Electric Vehicle (EV) in the UK currently involves a lot of baggage. But it’s not in the boot – it’s on the keyring, in the glove compartment and on your smartphone. A typical EV driver will have a wad of payment cards, a bunch of RFID tags and a smattering of apps each of which enables access to one of the proliferating EV charging brands. It’s a frustrating and time-consuming experience. Pull up at a new (to you) charging point and it’s something of a lottery. If you’re lucky there will be a contactless card reader so you can use your credit or debit card or your phone to tap and charge.

CTEK’s guide to avoid ghost faults in the workshop
When a vehicle arrives for fault-finding or repair, the first thing you will do in most cases is connect it to a diagnostic tool, to find out where the fault is. But if the battery is not supported and has low voltage, an incorrect error code may be reported by the diagnostic tool – this is known as a ‘ghost fault’. It happens because the vehicle is trying to protect the unsupported battery, which it does in many cases by shutting down the systems it does not really need, like the radio, the air conditioning, or the start/stop function – and that is recorded as a fault.
